Two wins at the Masters!

Very bad 2021 was already not bad for me, but last weekend it got even better. At the unofficial world championships in Florida, I won the title in both singles and doubles!

For the past few weeks, I have been staying in Orlando. Not for a relaxing winter, but for a rather strenuous tournament: the NEC Masters. The singles final was a real nec-to-nec race. In it I faced Sam Schröder. No stranger to me, as Sam is my doubles partner. After 2.5 hours of tennis I won: 4-6, 7-6 and 6-4. Afterwards I was as exhausted as the stadium of the Nijmegen NEC. But at the same time I was overjoyed!

Double title

Sam fortunately did not go home without a win. Together with me he won the doubles title; we defeated multiple winners David Wagner and Nick Taylor 6-0 and 6-1. I read on Facebook that I am the youngest international and first Dutch player ever to win the single quad title. And if it's on Facebook, it will probably be true.

The double win ends an already great year for me in major. I head towards the holidays as No. 3 in the world in singles and No. 1 in doubles. What a great year!
